We’re thrilled to announce that Lockleaze Sports Centre is the new home of the All Golds RLFC!
Starting in 2025, our 10-year partnership will support both the Bristol All Golds Men’s and Bristol Golden Ferns Women’s senior teams. This partnership gives them a strong, stable foundation to grow and further develop rugby league in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
A Historic Legacy: The Foundation of All Golds RLFC
The All Golds Rugby League Football Club’s roots trace back to New Zealand’s historic rugby league tour in England. This tour led to the famous match on February 15, 1908, at Cheltenham’s Athletic Ground, where New Zealand defeated England 8–5. This tour is what gave Cheltenham the title “Birthplace of International Rugby League.”
Led by Albert Henry Baskerville, a young postal clerk from Wellington, the tour introduced New Zealand’s rugby league style to England. The All Golds won the series dramatically, with William “Massa” Johnston scoring the final try, cementing their place in rugby history.
In 2008, Cheltenham honored this legacy with a centenary plaque at the Athletic Ground, commemorating the town’s role in rugby league’s development.

Exchanges with Craig [Managing Director of LSC] and Bethany [Sports Manager at LSC] have been cordial and professional with the principal emphasis throughout being the desire to work in partnership for mutual benefit….this is the first time in history that such a blue riband joint plan has been agreed upon in the South West of England!”
This partnership between All Golds Rugby League and Lockleaze Sports Centre marks an exciting new chapter for rugby league in Bristol, and we can’t wait to see the incredible journey that lies ahead! Here’s to an amazing future together!
